Mental Health Awareness Week. The silent part of our health, we don't speak enough about.
Mental Health is as important as our physical health; but when did you last think about how you’re doing?
This year’s Mental Health Week (09.05.2022 – 15.05.2022) focus is loneliness. You will find it staggering to know that one in four adults feel lonely, some or all the time. The Mental Health Foundation founded Mental Health Awareness Day 21 years ago and it is celebrated annually in May.
Mark Rowland, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation, said: “Loneliness is affecting more and more of us in the UK and has had a huge impact on our physical and mental health during the pandemic. That is why we have chosen it as our theme for Mental Health Awareness Week 2022. Our connection to other people and our community is fundamental to protecting our mental health so we much find better ways of tackling the epidemic of loneliness. We can all play a part in this. The week is also an invaluable opportunity for people to talk about all aspects of mental health, with a focus on providing help and advice.”
Academy Care Ltd, partnered with Perkbox just under twelve months ago. In this partnership, our staff have access to Health Assured. Our EAP offers a suite of well-being services, so our team receives the best support in their time of need. Included in this:
• 24/7 confidential helpline
• Up to four free structured counseling sessions
• Critical incident and trauma support
• Online health portal – a comprehensive library of wellbeing information, including factsheets, 4-week programs, mini health checks, and financial assessment tools
• Monthly wellbeing newsletters and webinars filled with practical information and guidance
This is only a small thank you to the community team, who visit our 70 service users on a weekly basis. A thank you for the hard work they put in, stopping our clients from feeling lonely.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week, Kristian from our Management Team and Joanne from our Community Liaison Team visited Curve Learning and Development to complete the Mental Health First Aider Course, run by Mental Health First Aid England.
This course, which was hosted over two days has given our company the ability and tools required to help when it is required. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognized training course that teaches people how to spot the signs of mental ill-health and provides help on a first aid basis.
An exciting opportunity, which we hope to roll out to our entire team.
Joanne has a personal interest in this course, and we couldn't be prouder to have Joanne as our point of contact for Mental Health Awareness.
