Doncaster is a historic city located in South Yorkshire, in the north of England. It is situated on the northern bank of the River Don and is known for its rich industrial and railway heritage. Doncaster has a long history dating back to Roman times, and it was an important market town during the Middle Ages. Its name is derived from "Don" (the river) and "caster" (a Roman camp). Doncaster is famous for its horse racing heritage, with the Doncaster Racecourse being one of the oldest and most prestigious in the country. The St. Leger Stakes, one of the British Classic horse races, is held here annually.
