For Academy Care Ltd, this is a huge day. We have operated without a CQC Registered Manager since we opened, having in situ a Nominated Person. Our Office Manager Christine had her formal interview with the Care Quality Commission on 24th June 2022. We have checked the CQC website daily but today received confirmation. Christine H has been successful and has received her appointment as the CQC Registered Manager for Academy Care Ltd. As the Registered Manager, Christine will be responsible for all regulated activities that Academy Care Ltd is involved in. This further moves toward our end goal, to provide unparalleled care in the Health Care Sector.
The CQC ask that a Registered Manager meets this criteria:
• Is of good character.
• Is able to properly perform tasks that are intrinsic to their role.
• Has the necessary qualifications, competence, skills, and experience to manage the regulated activity.
• Has supplied them with documents that confirm their suitability.
Christine has worked in the Health and Social Care Sector for 20 years; starting her career working nights on the rotating palliative team, and moving to a national firm where she worked her way up from care worker to management. Having taken a particular interest in training and compliance.
At the national firm, Christine achieved her Level Five NVQ in Health and Social Care plus Management. Her role as a Field Care Manager involved training in Moving and Handling, Dementia Awareness (where she was a dementia Champion), End of Life, and the Care Certificate for delegates who were new to the care sector. Christine’s unique approach to new starters and The Care Certificate led the company to completely rehaul its program based on Christine’s Model.
Christine part-managed her branch to be number one in compliance, this was scored against another 33 branches. All while also keeping her integrity and morals, which has led to her reputation being that where members of staff can approach her with their concerns, and to receive an honest, fair and approachable response.
In December 2020 Millan, Owner of Academy Care Ltd approached Christine, to see if she would be willing to move over and help improve the service at Academy Care…
Christine joined Academy Care Ltd in January 2021. Her first few months with us involved implementing compliance standards, rolling out mandatory training requirements, and having uniformed the recruitment and service user paperwork. Her first few months, although challenging set the new ways of working for Academy Care Ltd.
Christine, who has extensive business and organizational development knowledge, rebuilt the office team, including internal promotions, and head hunting for new roles, such as our Care Planner. In her tenure with us, we have seen our staff numbers grow from 20 to 73. A Care Certificate program been implanted – which has seen 28 delegates qualify and a business expansion involving us been accepted on the frameworks for Barnsley, Doncaster and Leeds.
In October 2021 the CQC visited us, to complete a planned audit. The results of the audit found our systems to be robust and that a vast improvement was made since their visit prior. This changed our position from “Inadequate – Special Measures” to “Requires Improvement”. This means we no longer were in breach of any regulations and that after their two previous inspections, we were moving in the right direction.
Although Christine would never take credit for any of the outstanding accomplishments we have made at Academy Care Ltd, we can say that having Christine lead us on governance, has made a positive change for all those working for and being cared for.
With a unique ability to lead and motivate people, having finally secured our first Registered Manager – Christine; Academy Care Ltd can finally say that our service is unparalleled within the district. This change ensures the next chapter of our mission, to maintain excellence in service delivery and continuous improvement.
